Malahide Castle
This is one of Dublin’s top visitor attractions. Malahide Castle was built in the late 12th century by the Talbot family who remained in residence there until 1975. Open to the public there are many period rooms on view and the castle contains the National Portrait Collection of the National Gallery.
Malahide Castle Exhibitions
Visit the Fry Model Railway collection and Tara’s Palace Dolls House. The Fry collection is a working railway of unique handmade train models; this is one of the world’s largest miniature railways (covering 2,500 sq. ft.).
Tara’s Palace is located in Malahide Castle Courtyard and is designed and built to 1/12 scale, encapsulating the grandeur and elegance of Ireland’s great 18th Century mansions.
Malahide Demesne
The castle grounds are now a 109-hectare park with walks, playground and sports facilities and featuring the Talbot Botanic gardens, a 10-hectare walled garden with over 5,000 species of plants.
Coastal Walk & Beach
The sandy beach can be enjoyed all year round and the coastal walk extends from the village to Portmarnock with lovely sea views along the way.

Malahide Coast and Portmarnock
There are three attractive options to choose from.
Option A Malahide Coastal Path to Portmarnock Roundabout
Distance: 10.46km (6.5miles)
Inclination: Flat
Directions:
➝ Leave Hotel by the Pedestrian gate at Main Entrance, turn right to follow the Coast Road toward Portmarnock, and use the path to the left of the road.
➝ Continue straight through Portmarnock town to the 5.26km mark at the small roundabout and return by the same routee
Option B Malahide Coastal Path to Portmarnock Roundabout returning via Paddy’s Field
Distance: 10.72km (6.66miles)
Inclination: Moderate
Directions:
➝ Leave Hotel by Pedestrian gate at Main Entrance, turn right to follow the Coast Road toward Portmarnock, use the path to the left of the road.
➝ Continue straight through Portmarnock town to the 5.26km mark at the small roundabout and return by same route through Portmarnock town.
➝ When passing the Martello Tower go another 500m and when you see the open field and railings on your left hand side, carefully cross the road to join the Paddy’s Field track.
➝ Follow the track toward the Rob’s Wall estate and enter that estate to join its access road to rejoin the main coastal road back to the Grand Hotel.
Option C Malahide Coastal Path to Portmarnock Beach
Distance: To Beach 6 km (3.72miles), Beach Run 8km (4.98miles), Total 14km (8.7miles)
Inclination: Flat
Directions:
➝ Leave Hotel by Pedestrian gate at Main Entrance, turn right to follow the Coast Road toward Portmarnock, use the path to the left of the road.
➝ Continue straight to Portmarnock Beach and either return or extend run onto Beach.
Alternative route via Paddy's Hill
➝ This run continues along Portmarnock’s Strand Road, through Portmarnock village (one mile from the seafront). Turning point at Portmarnock roundabout and return using the same route.
Malahide Estuary
Distance: 3.73 km (2.32 miles)
Inclination: Flat
Directions:
➝ Leave Hotel by the Pedestrian gate at Main Entrance, go toward the town but cross the road at the first Pedestrian crossing to join St. James's Terrace at the Garda Station.
➝ Follow St. James's Terrace taking a left turn at the sea and continuing straight ahead, passing the Green and going under the railway bridge to join the Sea Road along the inner Estuary.
➝ At 1.5km, turn left at Malahide Yacht Club for 0.5km and turn left onto Yellow Walls Road.
➝ Follow Yellow Walls Road until it joins the main Malahide Road and turn left toward the Village.
➝ Proceed through the Village to return to the Grand Hotel.
Malahide Castle
Distance: 6.23 km (3.87 miles)
Inclination: Moderate
Directions:
➝ Leave Hotel by the Pedestrian gate at Main Entrance, and turn left onto Grove Road.
➝ Follow Grove Road which curves right onto Church Road junction and turn left.
➝ Continue on Church Road until signs for Malahide Castle & Avoca and then turn right onto Back Road.
➝ Take the first entrance into Malahide Castle Grounds and run the perimeter track. You will cross the main vehicular entrance after 100m, cross car parking area to remain on the perimeter track.
➝ After passing the Cricket Grounds, turn right to return to the Castle entrance.
➝ Turn left to return to Hotel via Back Road and Grove Road.
